El Niño Returns: What the 2026 Forecast Actually Says
The World Meteorological Organization announced on June 2 that El Niño conditions were developing in the tropical Pacific. Its experts estimated an 80 percent probability of emergence during June–August and about a 90 percent probability through September–December.
Weather driver, not a prophecy calculator
El Niño changes the odds of heat and rainfall patterns around the world. WMO said most models suggested at least a moderate event, with a possibility of a strong one. By July, the organization reported that it was strengthening and expected to influence the August–October season.
Climate science explains physical causes; Scripture supplies moral and theological meaning. These are not enemies. Christians can accept careful measurement while also hearing creation's groaning as a call to humility and stewardship.
Prepare without sensationalism
No forecast can tell us exactly where every flood, drought or wildfire will occur. Families and churches should follow local warnings, maintain emergency supplies, check on vulnerable neighbors and support responsible relief organizations.
